From Radio Waves to Website Builds
I didn’t set out to build websites. I just wanted to help people grow their businesses.
Hi, I’m Andrew McEwan, aka The Savvy Marketing Guy.
And while these days I’m best known for building lead-generating websites and giving small businesses the tools to grow online, my roots are actually in radio.
Like, proper radio. Spinning records. Fading buttons. Recording ads on clunky equipment with coffee-stained scripts and a stopwatch in my hand.
It started way back when I was a teenager, tinkering with Commodore PETs at school and dreaming of running my own radio station. That dream came true when I joined Radio Borders, first as a presenter, and then also as Commercial Producer. I ended up writing, voicing and producing thousands of radio ads for local businesses.
So I was doing marketing. I just didn’t call it that at the time.
The accidental website designer
My first ever website wasn’t for a client — it was for my wife’s shop.
It was so long ago that I managed to get her site ranking #1 on Google UK for the phrase “kids clothes.” Not a typo. Back then, a well-written page and a decent domain name could actually get you places.
Anyway, word got out. The local business owners I’d been making radio ads for started asking me to build their websites too. Then some of the voiceover artists I worked with. Then their clients.
And before I knew it, what started as a side hustle had quietly turned into a proper business.
Why I still do this
Fast forward a few decades, and here we are.
These days I run The Website Freedom Hub, helping small business owners like you get a professional, done-for-you website — with none of the jargon, faff, or “where do I even start?” overwhelm.
I’ve blended everything I know — from writing and messaging, to design, tech, and even AI — into a process that’s genuinely simple, supportive, and affordable.
“Doesn’t AI just churn out the same generic rubbish?”
Great question. But here’s the thing: 95% of this very website was written with the help of AI. It’s not about replacing people. It’s about knowing how to guide it. And guiding it? That’s what I do best.
A bit more about me...
I live in a small village in the Scottish Borders, surrounded by rolling hills, retro radio kit I can’t bring myself to part with, and just enough gym equipment in the hallway to remind me I should probably use it more often.
I’ve always loved technology. But I love helping people even more.
So if I can take all the tricky, technical stuff off your plate (and give you something that just works) I consider that a win.
